more videos and a Pohang update
I posted my first batch of videos at
senzatema because I forgot the password to this journal and I knew it was saved on my computer, but I couldn't charge my laptop at the time. Long, boring story. Either way, there is one video post on that journal that should have been on this one. Now that I have an adapter, I can use my computer again.
The first week in Pohang has been very, very busy and actually quite eventful. I am finally settling in at Wonderland and getting used to the very hectic schedule I have there. I get to work at 9:30am and I leave at 5:30pm. Between those two times, there are about 10 minutes throughout the day, if one added them up, that I don't have children in my care. My first four classes of the day are age 5 (Korean age 6) and my last four are anywhere from age 6-9. The politics of teaching in a hagwon were related to me before I left for Korea, so I wasn't extremely surprised to be confronted with them, but it's definitely still an adjustment.
My first weekend went well. Despite recommendations to the contrary, I hung out at some of the famed ex-pat spots in downtown Pohang, met some Marines, and made a lot of Western connections rather than going out and finding some new Korean friends. I can't say I regret it. I got a lot of really good, positive advice from people who have worked/are working in Pohang. Even a few teachers who used to work at my school were down there at Mindy's this weekend. It was, overall, a very successful weekend.
I have a circle, or rather a square, of three other friends from the school that I see more often than anyone and they are quickly becoming a huge comfort to me: Joelle (from DC), Hannah (from Edinburgh), and Gabe (from LA). I have relied on them quite a bit and they have been really great.
I have pictures up on facebook and myspace and soon enough i'll be non-lazy enough to put some up here, but until then...
MY APARTMENT
BT5: ONE OF MY WORST CLASSES ON A CUTE DAY
BUKBU BEACH: A DRIVE BY (COMPLETE WITH MY SINGING BOSS IN THE BACKGROUND)
I actually sort of thought I had more to offer in the video department...since I don't, I have suspended my laziness and uploaded these pictures. I'll keep updating that album, so keep checking there, those of you who don't get this stuff on Facebook or Myspace.
Ok I've had cold Kraft mac and cheese, fried tofu with ketchup, and a handful of frosted flakes for dinner. I can do better than that!
